My Background
I am a cognitive-behavioral psychologist and I work as a full-time professor (researcher) at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC, Lima, Peru).
My major interests are eating behavior, body image, and related topics: e.g., obesity stigma. I am also interested in cyberpsychology, eHealth, and particularly in applying non-conventional methodologies, such as data science methods.
My interest for eating behavior began in the early 2000s when I was a psychology student in Peru. By that time I used to visit a hospital which provides treatment for people with Anorexia Nervosa, a truly complex condition that fascinated me for the next five years.
After graduating from university, I moved to Padova (Italy) in 2006. I felt in love with the passion Italians put on food and cooking. I spent almost two years learning about food, food history, and eating well under Luigi Cornaro's rule of measure and sobriety.
Later in 2008 I moved to Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) to specialize in psychological research and to work with a research group focused on the prevention of eating- and weight-related problems. This time, I felt in love with both the city and the catalonian food culture. During that time, I learnt a lot about doing scientific research and I got my MSc and PhD (cum laude) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Unfortunately, the global financial crisis pushed me to move again in 2012. Luckily I found a challenging but great opportunity to work as a postdoc in Brno (Czech Republic). There, I felt like at home and had the opportunity to work with renowned researchers.
After a total of 12 years of study (pre-university, BSc, MSc, PhD), and 10 years abroad, I came back to Peru in 2015 and one year later I started working at UPC.
